The Free State province was again the top performing province in the country with a matric pass rate of 85.1%. The province has consistently achieved among the best pass rates nationally. The Foundation’s partner entity, KST, which combines the best practices of Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation’s and Kagiso Trust’s Whole School Development programmes, contributed in no small way to the result. KST implements the programme in the Motheo and the Fezile Dabi districts in partnership with the Free State Department of Education and FirstRand Empowerment Foundation.

“District Whole School Development focuses on the whole school, from infrastructure development, educator and school leadership as well as youth development, making sure that all the elements of the school work together,” Mmabatho Maboya, CEO of Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation said.

In response to the impact of Covid-19 in 2020, KST supported schools that suffered absent teachers because of the pandemic, with mentors and a blended model of physical and remote classes.
